FIRST FLIGHT IN FIFTY YEARS
Hi Capt. Tom,
I just want to say "THANK YOU" for this program. I finally did it!! I did my
first flight this past Thursday 23rd, and you know, I WAS NOT NERVOUS
or anything. My husband and I flew to Denver CO, to see our son and it
was just awesome. I was not afraid. I didn't even have to take my anxiety
pill. I just kept thinking about this program and the video "At the Airport"
and what all I have read on the message board and all the support from
my co-workers and family and I have to say Capt. Tom, this site is
wonderful and I don't think I could of done it without your help. I have
never flown before and I will be 50 this year and I think of everything I
have missed out on. We are planing a trip to Vegas in Oct. I am so
excited. We leave here from Denver Saturday April 1st and I am looking
forward to getting on the plane.
Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart and I am telling everyone
about this program you have because I don't think I could of done it
without you.

ARE YOU - ALSO - THINKING ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU HAVE
MISSED OUT ON?
Sometimes, when so much has already been missed out on already,
it becomes that much harder to do something to stop missing out.
And, when that is the case, many find they remain stuck . . . until they
get really angry with themselves.
So many have said they had information on SOAR for years - often
stuck on their refrigerator - and finally took initiative only when they
got really fed up with themselves.
Until then, fear stopped them. It was only when disgust got bigger
than fear they did something.
On a scale of zero to ten, how big is your fear?
On a scale of zero to ten, how fed up are you? Enough to get started?
If not, don't worry. We will still be here when it gets bigger.
If you are almost there, call Lisa. She knows how it is. She can help.
She is at: 800 332-7359 or email her at lisa@fearofflying.com
If you need some advice on what to order to get started, call me at:

WANT YOUR OWN PILOT FLYING WITH YOU?
A pilot who was recently fired by a non-union airline for taking a stand
on safety issues has some free time on his hands and is willing to fly with
you. Fees? Work it out with him. Just email me with your phone number
or call me and I'll have him call you.

POSTED ON THE MESSAGE BOARD
I just flew for the first time!! I flew from Indpls to Denver last Thursday
(23rd) and I am so thankful to Capt.Tom and this SOAR program. It's
so amazing. I have been reading on this website, doing the DVD's and
receiving alot of support from my co-workers and family that I finally
decided to get this fear out of my life. I am still so amazed at myself. I
was not afraid or nervous. Our flight was even delayed 1 1/2 hours due
to FOG in Denver. I still did not sweat it out. I just did not think about it
and thought to myself that they know what they are doing. We finally
board our plane (FRONTIER AIRLINES) and I told them I was a first time
flyer and they even ask if I wanted to meet the polit...I couldn't believe it...
I mean we were already off schedule and they still were thinking about
the passagers. I didn't want to take up any of their time so I said I thought
I would be fine....they told me to let them know if I needed anything.
When we started down the runway...my husband said to look out the
window....I couldn't do it at that monment...I just wanted to stay focus but
a few mintues later....I couldn't take my eyes away from the beautiful sky...
it was so awsome....the flight was smooth...it was like floating in the air...
I kept thinking about everything Capt Tom said in the video "AT THE
AIRPORT" and it really helped me through it. My flight was 2 1/2 hrs and
it went so quick. When we landed...the plane made a loud noise and it
shook alittle and my husband said....it's normal...and I just looked at him
and said...."I DID IT"......I was so HAPPY... We leave here from Denver
Saturday at 2:55 pm and I will be back to tell you how my flight was going
back home.
Thank You Capt.Tom for all the information you have given on this web-
site. I feel so FREE now from that fear and I can now enjoy life even more
because of you.
My Reply:
It has been a long project, to find something that works for everyone.
The original courses started in 1975 were helpful only for mild cases of
flight anxiety.
I established SOAR in 1982, and added some Cognitive Behavioral
Therapy techniques to the mix. It helped, but still, success eluded some.
We set up a special weekend bringing in the best NLP practitioner we
could find; it produced nothing.
Finally, I went to grad school, got licensed as a therapist and spent five
years in various institutes in New York. Things started to click, because
it was only because of fear of flying, that I was there. My focus was on
this subject regardless of what else was going on.
Finally, we got there, and the triumph you have experienced is a shared
one.
Thank you for letting all of us know about it. I hope also that what you
have said will serve to move others who have little hope of success to
know that - no matter what they have tried - we can win because we
have the proper tools.

MORE ON FINE TUNING THE STRENGTHENING EXERCISE
A client emailed the following about how she finishes off her practice
sessions.
I now envision a fully loaded airplane---loaded with cartoon characters
that is ! It is in full color and quite entertaining--Olive oil is wringing her
hands, Tweety Pie is in a full sweat , Mr. Magoo is totally oblivious to
the fact that the O2 masks have just dropped down, etc.
Oh yes---the Lion from Oz is there for courage and Dorothy for my worries
about death---saying----" we're not in Kansas any more" !!!! It is great to
have imagination when it is used in the proper way !!!!

This week Patrick explains why a pilot's pay that looks like $118 an hour
really may be only $12 an hour.
