TAKEN CARE OF BY DELTA

Capt. Tom,

This is not the first e-mail I have sent to you but I feel such an urge
to share with you when I'm excited. . . .

I have flown to California, Utah, Wyoming, Mexico and NY several
times. I just came back from my second trip to NY. My mom had a
stroke in November and I have had to go up several times to help my
sisters care for her.

Without your course I know without a doubt that I could never have
gotten on the plane. I was a train traveler! Don't get me wrong, I
still have a little anticipatory anxiety and I really don't enjoy take
off but..... Delta has been wonderful. The flight attendants are great
to me and the pilots have been so kind to let me come up to the
cockpit and speak with them.

I feel like a celebrity most of the time! When I first started to fly after
your course, I could not and I mean NOT look out the window, now
I'm sitting next to the window and just staring out there in total
amazement at how awesome it is to be flying above this beautiful
earth! I've seen rivers and lakes and mountains that would blow
your mind! . . .

I'm so proud of myself and my husband is ecstatic that we can finally
plan trips together and travel by air. . . . We are planning a trip to
Washington with our girls in the spring and my husband said we would
take the Amtrak for a change and I was actually disappointed!

Thank you again and again Capt. Tom!! Our next big trip is to Aruba!
I can hardly wait!

JUST THE FREE VIDEO MADE IT OK FOR HER

Dear Capt Bunn

At the beginning of this past summer, my boyfriend and I made
plans to fly to Vegas for the week over Christmas and New years.
I was happy to have made such fun plans, but I honestly did NOT
have ONE single FULL nights sleep since I saw my name typed
on the reservation ticket. . . . I felt when I hugged my 9 year old
goodbye the night of the flight, that I was saying goodbye to
him forever. Sheer Terror . . . .

The next time I flew, every bump made my heart leap out of my
chest. . . . I panicked on take off. Screaming that the plane was
falling, and the steward said, if we can’t calm her she’s going to
need oxygen.

But, you sweet man...there you were, your free video. The things
you said, knowing it was coming from a Pilot...they all made so
much sense!! . . . I think I memorized the whole thing. . . . Most
importantly to me, were two things. 'as soon as you make the
choice to step on a plane, you are the SAFEST place you can be' '
as soon as you take your child on a plane, they are the safest they
can be.'

And when the plane maintenance man spoke about all the double
checking they do, and about all the back-up safety systems there
were...I was so comforted by that . . . .

I made a 4 and a half hour flight, and I was so proud of myself in
that plane that I wept tears of joy. I wish I had come across SOAR
earlier, and I wouldn’t have had all those months of night terrors
and sleepless nights. Thank you from the bottom of my heart

VERY Sincerely Yours,

WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?

One thought causes distress, and leads to another which also causes
distress, etc., etc, etc.

They are all 'what if' thoughts? Are they questions without answers?
No, there are answers, but even the answers may will not help that
much. Why? When a 'what if' thought enters the mind, even if it is
followed by an answering thought, there are a few thousands of a
second between the 'what if' and the answer. That may be enough
time for the emotional control system to fire and send 'flight or fight'
stress hormones into your brain and body.

Each thought gives you a shot of hormones which 'rev' you up, up,
up, up.

And often an answer is not absolute. It only tells you there is a
most remote possibility of disaster.

But the image of the answer - of that most remote possibility - stays
in the mind and causes more hormone release.

How do you get rid of an image of disaster that is very, very, very
unlikely? You can't do it intentionally. Why? Because if you want
to stop thinking a certain thought, you have to remember all the
time not to think it, so that leaves you dealing with the thought.
It’s a “catch 22.”

The only way to deal with this is to train your though processes to
keep the thought out of mind and to do that unconsciously and
automatically.
